Juan Sainz Vera, jazz, latin and flamenco drums (juansainz.com). Professor at the Music School of the University of Cádiz. Coming from the jazz scene, in which he has carried out most of his professional activity and studies (trained with teachers like Max Roach, Billy Hart, Jeff Ballard, Jordi Rossy,Adam Cruz, etc.), has also collaborated with numerous flamenco artists, in recordings and live, from the most traditional (Juanito Villar, Rancapino, José Mercé, Pansequito, familia Montoya, Pedro el Granaíno, Piculabe, etc.) to the more modern fusions (new flamenco and flamenco jazz: Chano Dominguez, Dorantes,Antonio Mesa, Carmelo Muriel, Sergio Monroy,Alfonso Gamaza, El Barrio, etc.).At the moment cooperates in a research project on flamenco, with the jazz double bassist Piet Verbist, for the Antwerp Conservatory.Due to his training, he has always translated flamenco codes from a jazz perspective.As a result of this, and of his teaching work, he decides to elaborate this book, in which both points of view are combined.
